Soooooo I decided to participate in the 21-day fast along with the ladies at my gym at the beginning of the New Year to restore my health. I was so worried and skeptical because the idea of not only no meat was ok. However, the though of NO CAFFEINE almost sent me to glory. However, with a few modifications to the Daniel fast, I indeed survived the oh so treacherous 3-week fast. . If you’re thinking about completing the Daniel/vegan fast, I encourage you to keep reading so you can know what the eat on the Daniel/vegan fast.
I’ll be real, the first few days were ROUGH. I couldn’t believe people were vegan in real life lol. However, after I sat down and made a meal plan for myself, things got a bit better
Breakfast Daniel/Vegan Fast Ideas
For breakfast, I would alternate between fruit and nuts or just steel cut oats AKA oatmeal with fruit. Let’s say the fruit consisted of blueberries, bananas, walnuts or almonds. In the photo above, I made a blueberry compote that was JUST right.
Lunch & Dinner Fast Ideas
Furthermore, I will say that throughout the fast, I gained more clarity and overall felt good, but sis was HUNGRY. I immediately knew that I would be consuming more carbs, because without, your girl wouldn’t have made it. This brings us to lunch/dinner prep.I knew I wanted to try making a black bean soup, but I had no idea that I would snap like I did! Ha! I also thought about my other favorite foods that I could make vegan and I settled on Jamaican rice and peas, cabbage, and plantains. I would like to note that I used a neutral cooking oil (instead of canola oil), like avocado oil for pan frying my plantains. For the cabbage, olive oil was used. Additionally, I extracted milk from coconuts for the rice and peas because I wasn’t sure if the canned version was necessarily “Daniel” fast appropiate.
I also roasted potatoes and used Chef Resha’s chimichurri sauce for a little razzle dazzle. The potatoes were great for either a snack or dinner. They were not only flavorful, but filling as well. Before adding the chimichurri sauce, I roasted the fingerling potatoes with garlic and onion powder, pepper, kosher salt, and red pepper flakes.
I also made a black bean soup that has been featured on the recipe’s page.

I also have other vegan recipes like the garlic & herb hummus.
Fast Food Vegan Ideas
Also, just as any other working adult or busy body, I did not always have the pleasure of cooking. Thank goodness that there are restaurants that aligned with the fast. For instance, Chipotle! I highly recommend Chipotle since they make most of their food in house. A sofrito bowl without cheese or sour cream saved my life! For those of you who may not know, sofrito is vegan & completely aligns with the Daniel fast). It is a traditional vegan Spanish dish that is made up of herbs and vegetables, however, Chipotle’s version is made with shredded tofu and herbs.
Final result – My overall experience
Lastly, I’ll get to the information that you were waiting for and discuss my overall wellbeing while on this food fast. First things first, I was hungry. I mentioned this before, but I feel like I was barely full although I ate A TON. I still worked out and had personal training sessions while on the fast which didn’t affect me too much. I was use to drinking black coffee as a pre-workout, but I modified it with tea. I noticed that my body toned a lot more fast and became more defined while on the fast. In addition, I felt like I had more energy during my brief vegan fast. Overall, I’ll give the vegan fast a 10/10.
