One of my favorite dishes to order from a restaurant is Cedar Plank Salmon because of the smokiness the wood gives the dish. Plus, I crave it more because it’s rare to obtain anywhere outside the fine dining or casual restaurants that serve it. With that being said, I’ve noticed the when grilling, not many people use cedar planks which is why I’ve chosen to focus on this topic and provide tips for this grilling with cedar plank salmon recipe.
First off, you can purchase cedar planks from Lowe’s, Home Depot, etc. You may be lucky enough to purchase through Amazon. Please don’t think you can’t grill because you don’t own a home to grill. If you live in an apartment, use the grill near the pool area. You don’t have to worry about too much about cross-contamination since the food is cooking on cedar plank and not on the grill directly.
Tips for Cedar Plank Salmon Recipes
- Once you retrieve your cedar planks from the wrapper, place the planks in a Luke warm water bath for 20 minutes. It would be best to use your kitchen sink.
- After 20 minutes, remove the planks from the water and set aside on a baking pan to dry a bit.
- Once you have seasoned your salmon to your liking, place the salmon onto the cedar planks to be transferred.
- As you prepare to grill, make sure the grill is on medium high heat or flames. PLEASE DON’T BLOW YOUR EYEBROWS AWAY. Stand back a little when turning on the grill.
- Place the cedar plank salmon on the grill and cook for 10-15 minutes or so. Use a thermometer to cook to 145 degrees F. Remove salmon as carry-over cooking continues once removed from the flame.
- Tip: While cooking, be careful not to scorch youR salmon while cooking. If your cedar plank does catch on fire, use the grilling tongs to move the cedar plank from the direct flames. You may also use a bit of beer to douse the flames.
- Once the salmon is cooked to your liking, remove the cedar planks with grilling tongs and place on the baking sheet so that you don’t burn or injure yourself.
Meal Prep Tip: If cooking for a week’s supply of food, I recommend at least 6 cedar planks, MINIMUM.
