Now I fell in love with Charleston, South Carolina about a year ago while I was on a layover. I was extremely fascinated at how good the seafood was. Like, the shrimp was Fresh, FRESH baby. I just KNEW I would be making more rounds to Charleston after my first brunch at the Darling Oyster Bar. If you are a huge foodie like me, continue reading this Foodie Recommendation: Charleston, SC as I’ll list a few places in the historic downtown area. Again, this post focuses more on downtown Charleston food, I’ll be updating more spots in the Charleston area soon.
The Darling Oyster Bar
The Darling was my first restaurant ever in Charleston and it did not disappoint. I visited with three other people and had a family style feast. We all split the crab cakes, chowder fries, cocktail shrimp (only a few seen in this video), and desert!

Hyman’s Seafood
This place has been around for a minute as it has been passed down 4-5 generations. It took me a while to order because I just didn’t know where to start 😩. I finally settled on the BOOM BOOM shrimp and house made chips. It was too good because it was just enough spice for the dish. HOWEVER, the freshly fried shrimp was the star of the show. I could have eaten the dish without the sauce and chips to be honest. Next, I settled on the cajun flounder and broccoli – mainly because I needed to eat something green lol. I also added the salmon croquettes because I was intrigued as the picture depicted as fried. I’m definitely not a fried salmon person because I feel like salmon is the last thing that needs to be fried in the seafood group, however, this was an interesting twist and flavor.
I would also like to note that the price points at the establishment were great. A drink was anywhere between $8-$12, appetizers about $10-$15, while the entree was $20 and up. I found this to be great since restaurant prices are astronomically high as hell these days…

Bar Felix
I loveeeeee the ambiance at Bar Felix mainly because it gave a French hip vibe. It makes since the establishment focuses on French cuisine. I arrived during their down time which was 3pm to 5pm so there was a limited menu. However, the small bites menu was still great. I got the lobster deviled eggs and Mac n’ cheese (no prosciutto). To be clear, the deviled eggs had more of lobster shavings than a chunk of lobster meat. However, the flavors of the deviled eggs were still GREAT. The Mac n’ cheese was also satisfying, however, since I did omit the prosciutto, I believe it altered the salt content. I just added a few dashes of salt and VOILA! Other than that, *chef’s kiss*
